This is a group build or a class.

In a group build format, we will build several workbenches for the space. Default bench size is 2'x8'x36".

In a class format, we will cut parts for all benches, and assemble one. At the end, you will have all parts and instructions to assemble the workbench in your own garage/basement/family room. The default size above can be customized.

We have most of the tools necessary for the build. You will need to bring your own safety goggles and gloves, and a cordless drill/driver, if you have one. We will provide the materials, or bring your own (see list below).

If you are building the bench for yourself, you need to have access to a vehicle that can fit a 2'x8' piece of plywood (this is the default size of benchtop, you can cut it smaller). This is the largest part, if it fits, everything else would too.

Materials List

• the sheet material for the benchtop (3/4 plywood is recommended, but MDF or chipboard of similar thickness can be substituted)
  • one 4'x8' sheet is enough for the top and the lower shelf, or for a double-thickness top
• sheet material for the shelf (can use the same stuff as for the top, but 3/8 or 1/2 is OK)
• 2x4x8 (rear legs and stretchers)
  • 4 full length pieces for stretchers
  • two 36" pieces for rear legs
  • 10-12 pieces of 24" for cross-braces
  • that comes to around 8 pieces, but only 4 need to be full 8 ft
• 2x6x6 (front legs)
  • 2x4 can be used for front legs, but to get needed rigidity, use 2x6 for upper (and possibly lower) side cross-pieces.
• box of 2 1/2" drywall screws
• wood glue (optional)

Tools and Safety Equipment Needed

Safety equipment:

• ACME brand safety goggles (chips! dust!)
• Work gloves (splinters!)
